BACKGROUND

Older people often sit alone – with experiences, memories and knowledge that are never shared. At the same time, many children and young people grow up without contact with their grandparents’ generation. We want to do something about that. Grandparents Resort is an initiative from Engelhjelpen that will connect generations and cultures through inclusive holiday experiences. We are developing an offer where children, young people and the elderly have the opportunity to share time, stories and joy of life in safe and scenic surroundings.

PURPOSE

To create meeting places for generational exchange and community, where older people are included in meaningful communities and children and young people have access to invaluable life experience, traditions and stories.

• Establish intergenerational holidays that include both older and younger participants • Contribute to social inclusion and prevent loneliness among older people • Facilitate mutual learning and story sharing • Facilitate for people with disabilities • Create inclusive stays in collaboration with local communities and private individuals

GRANDMOTHER'S HOUSE – FIRST STEPS TOWARDS GRANDPARENTSRESORT.COM

A central element of the Grandparents Resort concept is our Grandparents' Houses – homely, quiet places in nature where generations can meet and be together.

These houses can accommodate 3–10 people and provide space for shared meals, conversations, play, rest and enjoyment of life – across age and cultural backgrounds.

As of today we have:
• A Grandma's House in Oslo, close to city life, nature and the Oslofjord.
• Grandma's house in the countryside, with green surroundings and plenty of space for socializing
• ⁠Grandma's House - Lofoten where angelic help has history and roots
• ⁠Grandma's House - Arendal with proximity to the sea and coastal culture

More Bestemorhus will be added over time. We collaborate with both owners, local communities and volunteers who want to contribute to inclusive holiday experiences.

These are not commercial rentals, but a volunteer-based and heartwarming offer where opening a home – or joining us on vacation – is a small step towards something bigger:
